While babywearing offers a number of benefits, it is important to ensure that you are carrying or wrapping your child safely. Please keep the following things in mind.

Product Details & Warnings

  • The Zeitgeist Baby Carrier can be used from newborn up to 2 years (3.2 kg / 7 lb – 20 kg / 44 lb).
  • The Zeitgeist Toddler Carrier can be used from 1 up to 3.5 years (7 kg / 15 lb – 20 kg / 44 lb).
  • For low birthweight babies and children with medical conditions, seek advice from a health professional before using the product.
  • Always use common sense when carrying your child in a carrier.
  • Do not use or stop using the product if parts are missing or damaged.
  • Always check if all buckles, buttons, snaps, straps and adjustments are secure before each use.
  • Always check for ripped seams, loose buttons, torn straps/fabric and damaged fasteners before each use.
  • Always monitor your child when using the carrier.
  • Always ensure proper placement of the child in the carrier, including correct leg positioning.
  • Always make sure you can kiss your child at the top of his or her head if carrying on your front.
  • Keep the carrier away from children when it is not in use.
  • The Zeitgeist Baby Carrier can be used with children that are unable to hold their head upright. Please find instructions on how to position the neck cushion correctly here. Do not use the Zeitgeist Toddler Carrier with children that are unable to hold their head upright.
  • Only carry your child on your back after adequate practice. Assemble the carrier while being on a soft surface or with someone to help.
  • Never use a carrier while engaging in activities that involve a heat source or exposure to chemicals, such as cooking and cleaning.
  • Be aware of hazards in the domestic environment, e.g., heat sources and spilling of hot drinks.
  • Never use a carrier when balance or mobility is impaired because of exercise, drowsiness or medical conditions.
  • Never use a carrier while driving a vehicle or being a passenger on a motor vehicle.

Fall Hazard

  • Always check if all buckles, buttons, snaps, straps and adjustments are secure before each use.
  • Always adjust the carrier’s padded leg openings to fit the baby’s legs snugly.
  • Children can fall through a wide leg opening or out of carrier.
  • Your balance may be adversely affected by your movement and that of your child.
  • Take special care when leaning forward or sideways and while walking.
  • Never bend at waist, bend at knees.
  • This carrier is not suitable for use during sporting activities.

Suffocation Hazard

  • Children under 4 months can suffocate in this product if face is pressed too tight against your body.
  • Premature children, children with respiratory problems and children under 4 months are at greater risk of suffocation.
  • Never strap the child too tight against your body.
  • Always allow room for head movement for the child.
  • Keep the child’s face free from obstructions at all times.

  • Baby Wraps and Ring Slings can be used from newborn up to two years (3.2 kg / 7 lb – 20 kg / 44 lb).
  • For pre-term, low birthweight babies and children with medical conditions, seek advice
from a health professional before using the product.
  • Before each use, check your Baby Wrap or Ring Sling for any damage, ripped seams, torn straps or fabric or damaged hardware.
  • Always use common sense when wrapping your child in a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling.
  • Never place more than one baby in Baby Wrap or Ring Sling.
  • Never wear more than one Baby Wrap or Ring Sling at a time.
  • Never leave a baby in or with a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling that is not being worn.
  • Read and follow all printed instructions and view our instructional videos. Always ensure that the baby is safely positioned in the Baby Wrap or Ring Sling according to these instructions.
  • Always start practicing one carry, preferably the Front Carry. If you master this carry, you can go on and practice more. A little help from a babywearing consultant might be useful.
  • Only use the back carry after adequate practice, over a soft surface or with someone to help.
  • Always wrap your child in “frog” or M-position, make sure the knees are at the same height or higher than the hips.
  • Always wrap your child facing your body.
  • Always make sure your child is able to breathe freely.
  • Always monitor your child to ensure the mouth and nose are unobstructed.
  • Always make sure your child’s head is supported.
  • Always make sure you can kiss your child at the top of his or her head if carrying on your front.
  • Always tie with a reef-knot.
  • Always monitor the child often when he/she is in a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling. Ensure that the child is periodically repositioned.
  • Always be aware of your child’s body heat. A Baby Wrap or Ring Sling provides an extra layer of fabric, and you share each other’s body heat, so adjust clothing to these facts.
  • Never wrap while engaging in activities which involve a heat source or exposure to chemicals, such as cooking and cleaning.
  • Be aware of hazards in the domestic environment, e.g., heat sources and spilling of hot drinks.
  • Never use a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling when balance or mobility is impaired because of exercise, drowsiness or medical conditions.
  • Never use a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling while driving a vehicle or being a passenger on a motor vehicle.

Fall Hazard

Leaning, bending over or tripping can cause you and your child to fall. Always keep one hand on the child while moving.

  • To prevent hazards from falling, ensure that your child is securely positioned in the Baby Wrap or Ring Sling.
  • Always wrap tightly and make sure your child is adequately supported by the Baby Wrap or Ring Sling, make a good seat and tuck enough fabric under its bum.
  • Always check to ensure that all knots and adjustments are secure.
  • Never use the Baby Wrap or Ring Sling when balance or mobility is impaired.
  • The caregiver should be aware of the increased risk of the child falling out of the Baby Wrap or Ring Sling as he/she becomes more active.
  • A Baby Wrap or Ring Sling is not suitable to use during sports activities such as running, cycling, swimming or skiing.

Suffocation Hazard

Babies younger than four months can suffocate in this product if his/her face is pressed too tightly against your body. Babies that are born prematurely and those with respiratory problems are at greater risk of suffocation.

  • Never use a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling for babies smaller than 8 pounds without seeking the advice of a healthcare professional.
  • Always ensure your child’s chin is not resting on its chest as its breathing may be restricted which could lead to suffocation.
  • Always monitor to make sure the baby’s face is uncovered, clearly visible, and away from caregiver’s body at all times.
  • Make sure the baby does not curl into a position with the chin resting on or near baby’s chest. This position can interfere with breathing, even when nothing is covering the nose or mouth.
  • When nursing in a Baby Wrap or Ring Sling, always reposition after feeding so the baby’s face is not pressed against your body.
