Hey friend,
I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.
Like how you used to think that becoming a mother wasn’t for you. You were scared that you couldn’t offer financial safety to a child, as for all your life you had struggled with your own. And as a person with depression, you were worried that postpartum would hit you like a ton of bricks – that you’d end up a sad and tired mother.
You found love and moved abroad, but lost yourself in the process. You were overwhelmed with a sense of insecurity and powerlessness.
A few years ago, after therapy, I noticed a shift in you. You had a new curiosity about yourself. You started taking risks – trusting life. You indulged yourself without having a bad conscience. You took pride in your achievements without embarrassment. You let go of control – allowed help. You gave up people pleasing and started standing up for yourself. You had decided to start loving yourself.
Good things started happening as you kept prioritizing yourself. Then suddenly, there it was. The dream you hadn’t allowed yourself to dream before.
… And look at you now! A mother!
You thrived during pregnancy. You felt strong, healthy, powerful, and beautiful. You were mesmerized by your body’s intelligence. Each symptom had its purpose.
Even your labor went well. It wasn’t easy, but you went through it like a rockstar. The moment your daughter was laid on your chest, you were ready to continue the job that your body had started – you were ready to be her mother. In that moment you fell into something, like love, but bigger.
I’ve never seen you so happy.
I know you are now who you always needed to be. This child will be your life’s work and biggest achievement. Being her mother will be the most honorable title you’ll ever have. I know you, so I know you’ll spend every waking moment working to deserve this responsible position. And you’ll do so with the greatest pleasure, so that hopefully one day your daughter, too, will see a good mother in you.
Please know that you are worthy of every bit of this happiness. I love you, and I will always be here to help you move more mountains.
By yours truly,
You
